Meet Beatriz

“Living in Garfield County and establishing my roots here is one of the best decisions I have ever made. It is my mission in life to give back to this county and its people.”

Beatriz is a proud resident of Garfield County, architect, organizer, mother, conservationist, local leader, and your Democratic candidate for District 2 County Commissioner on the Garfield County Board of Commissioners.

Beatriz believes that it is the obligation of the people in power to recognize and listen to the needs and concerns of all people in our community, not just a select few. Which is why she works shoulder to shoulder with each and every resident in her efforts to build a more connected, organized and inclusive Garfield County.

She is currently the Director for Defiende Nuestra Tierra for Wilderness Workshop whose mission is to protect and conserve the wilderness and natural landscapes of the Roaring Fork Watershed, the White River National Forest, and adjacent public lands.

She has traveled to Washington to lobby for the people of Western Colorado, fighting to protect our public lands from extractive industries and make sure all voices are heard in the fight against environmental degradation. As a member of the steering committee for the Glenwood Springs Recreation Economy for Rural Communities, Beatriz is dedicated to preserving the city’s natural treasures, building sustainable jobs, growth and creating a community for all.

She is a LEED certified architect with 15 years of experience and a focus on green and sustainable design, she has earned professional acknowledgement in both the US and Mexico, offering professional development training for the US Green Building Council and the Mexican Green Building Council and, in 2007, winning the Emerging Green Builders competition in Colorado to represent the state at the national level in Chicago as an emerging green builder.

Beatriz helped CORE develop a bilingual workforce training program that helps construction workforce excel in high performance buildings and ensure a just transition of our local workforce, and is co-founder of Voces Unidas de las Montañas, a local nonprofit that creates opportunities for Latinos to lead and advocate for themselves.

Beatriz is the eldest daughter of immigrants. She grew up in a bilingual and bicultural household, where giving up and conforming to the status quo was never an option.

She is the proud mother of a nine-year-old Colorado native, first-generation American citizen, fourth grader at Glenwood Springs Elementary School, where she served as treasurer of the PTA last year. She is also an active member of the Roaring Fork School District, sitting on their Family Advisory.

Beatriz is committed to serving working-class people over corporate interests and advocating for social, racial, economic, and environmental justice. She is a Democrat with a vision for the future who is ready to help bring sustainable economic growth, stable and good jobs, and equitable representation to all communities in Garfield County.

“Together we will make Garfield County a national leader, an example to follow! Join us, and ensure a better future for all.”
